08/19/07 : AS I AM

So this time it's been MAAAAADDDDD long since I wrote here. But I know you guys forgive me since I've been grinding on this new music. haaahaaaaa!!!! This is it though! Now is the time and I'm about less than a week away from being totally done. I almost can’t believe it. This has ABSOLUTELY been the most profound year of my life! I can’t even explain the depth that it goes, the things that I’ve learned, The things that have made me first weaker than stronger and finally over all a better person in so many ways. I can barely believe the way things have turned out! I’ve never been more happy with a record! These SONGS!!! Each one of them has such a personal and honest story that goes along with them. Each one of them are a piece of my heart and I’m so excited to be able to gift wrap it and present it to you.

The single is called ‘Noone” and I’m LOVING IT!!! I hope it’s a bit unexpected and something that completely surrounds you, engulfs you and sweeps you away. I hope it makes you feel good and strong and passionate and makes you scream the words at the top of your lungs. I hope it does things to you!!!! Hahahaha

As you can see I’m extremely exited about it and can’t wait for you to hear it!

Honestly, I cant wait for you to hear everything!! Each song is so different from the rest! You will NEVER have a chance to get tired. But as diverse as it all is, it still has the true representation and foundation of who I am, AS I AM now!

I have no regrets, no reservations, no hesitations, no DOUBT!

I am truly, totally and completely ready!!!

LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!;-)

Much love and talk (and see you) soon

Ak

March 1st, 2007……Sheila Ray Charles

The talented daughter of legend Ray Charles, Sheila Ray, was at A440 a good part of March working on her first full length release due out soon. Sheila has been in the studio with Engineers Adam Krinsky, and Nate Reitsma, honing away on her soulful and inspiring new record. We have never met a sweeter, or more grateful woman! We wish Sheila much success on her new book, and upcoming record!

September 26th, 2006.......
Diddy

Bad Boy Records booked A440 for an evening of tracking for none other then P Diddy who was in town supporting the upcoming release of his new record. The A440 staff along with Diddy's engineer Victor Abijaudi worked all evening and Victor was a gracious guest. We're honored to call Diddy, Victor and Bad Boy Records a customer.

September 1st, 2006.......A440 is BACK! Bigger and better!

After 5 long months, A440 has just completed a total renovation of Studio 1! Improvements include just about everything, from a totally new look, to significantly better acoustics. And possibly the biggest announcement...A440 is now home to the most respected mixing console in the world. Installation is now complete on our new  SSL 4072 E/G G+ Console!!! See the picture above, and more pics here. The decision to make such a big change to A440, not to mention the Twin Cities recording scene, was not taken lightly. Although the Twin Cities are home to a number of respected tracking spaces, world-class mixing rooms are hard to come by. According to Billboard Magazine, 75% of US No. 1 Singles (Hot 100) were recorded on G+ Series Consoles. Check for yourself here.

Improvements at A440 go beyond the SSL and studio redesign, and include an entire array of some of the most respected new and vintage gear. From a beautifully refurbished 1952 Neumann U47 to a vast selection of outboard gear, we have what it takes to make your record stand out. And with the addition of Studio 3 last Winter, and an upcoming announcement pending on Studio 2, our pricing and flexibility cannot be matched.

Needless to say, we're excited to be back to work, and the first few sessions in the new Studio 1 have been well received both with the A440 staff and beyond. We had the pleasure of hosting James Harley and Matt Kirkwold of World Record Productions(WRP) as our first session after the upgrades who mixed local rockers Regimen Rong. Their work immediately made its way to Chris Bellman of Bernie Grundman Mastering who made a point to call and say this was some of the best work he has heard from WRP yet. John Heinen has been in the studio more than not since Studio 1 was put back online working a majority of the time with our dear friend Joanna Jahn on what is sure to be one of the Twin Cities most well-received records of the year. Great songwriting, all-star cast of players combined with Joanna's gorgeous voice. We've also welcomed United Men Divide, finished up Dante's Lounge (Whew!) and we're finished tracking and about to mix the new Seconds Before EP. Thanks all!

If you've never been to A440, or have worked with us in the past, please stop down for a tour of all of the latest changes. We'd love to show off the new upgrades! Thanks!

January 1st, 2006.......A440 Celebrates 10 Years!!!

It was January 1st, 1996 when John Heinen signed a lease on a space at the former Grain Belt Brewery Warehouse in NE Minneapolis and began building out a recording studio named A440. Through these 10 years, A440 has evolved into one of the most respected studios in the industry, and this is only the beginning. A440 will be hosting a 10 year anniversary event on Saturday January 7th, with live performances by The Sweet Colleens, Razonu, Tony Sims and Scarlet Haze. Come join us in celebrating 10 years of great music!

September 1st, 2005.......The Los Lonely Boys!

A440 was very priveleged to host two days of recording for the Grammy Award winning Los Lonely boys. In charge of the session was (also) Grammy Award winning Producer.Engineer John Porter (Taj Mahal, Roxy Music, Stan Ridgway, The Smiths, Bryan Ferry, The Go Go's, Ozzy Osbourne, etc.) It's great to have a chance to work with a national artist from time to time, especially when they are as laid back and easy to work with, not to mention talented, as John, Jo Jo, Henry, and Ringo have all been. We've tracked vocals for 4 songs and guitars for a couple more, and the sessions prompted a picture of Henry at our console in "Rolling Stone Magazine"! Thanks go to the band, John Porter, Manager Kevin Wommack, Their crew, and A& R rep from Or Music (Sony/BMG) Michael Caplanwho have all been gracious guests.

July and August sessions have included an incredible number and variety of artists. We've had the pleasure of working with Crisis, Mick Labriola, and continuing sessions with Sasha Theisen. Flash Red also tied up their sessions which began in April. Good Luck guys! And our Great friends, the "no holds barred" metal band Rivkit, tracked the start of their new record.

Other artists included Edward Davidson, Hyentyte and Wisconsin favorites 4th Floor, who we're happy to say have now booked another block of dates on October to pick up where they left off last month.

September is proving to follow suit with a great variety of artists. Thanks to Shilo ministries, Maduro and The Sweet Colleens, who we're looking forward to having in over the next few weeks.

July 1st 2005:

Kountertop from Ames, Iowa completed 11 days in June at A440, and the results are exceptional. Leroy Smokes paid us a visit to work on mixing some of their new material, and the month was rounded out with Minnesota Music Academy's male vocalist of 2004, John Starkey. We can't wait to hear his new record which will undoubtedly prove to be one of the most talked about releases out of the Twin Cities this year.

April 1st 2005:

After weeks of recording at A440, the Skywynd CD release show is here(Skywynd.com). Congratulations to Skywynd for all the hard work and talent they have put into this recording! After a preliminary listen (or two) of the final master on our part, we assure you, the record will not disappoint. Chris Riemenschneider in today's Star Tribune features the Skywynd Album "Escape Plan" in his weekly column. Link to the article here.

Come support Skywynd at First Avenue tomorrow! See you there!

March 1st 2005:

March began on a high note on Friday the 4th with a live showcase by local singer/songwriter Eric Johnston. The event was a smashing success, and all who attended had a great time with a phenomenal young rising star. Thanks go to Eric Johnston and Nate Reitsma for helping make this event one of the best nights of live music at A440 in recent memory. A440 hopes to continue showcasing local talent in a regularly occurring showcase series. More to come.

In other news, Skywynd continues working with Engineer/Producer Brian Jacoby on mixing their new release "Escape Plan". If things go as planned work should be tying up by mid-month, with just enough time for mastering at Sterling Sound in New York, then off to duplication.

Later in March, A440 welcomes Hydrophonics , a High Energy Hip-Hop group who have conquered St. Cloud and have been building a fan base in the Twin Cities. They begin on a 5 song EP with A440 Engineer Erik Stromstad. A440 also hosts a number of days for The Royal We who are also working on a 5 song EP and have been building a respectable fan base here as well. At the helm, The Royal We have enlisted the help of MMA Producer of the Year Jacques Wait who was here a few months back working with local punk favorites No Pride.

Other late artists include Kevin Idso of Kronk and Last of a Dying Breed. And late March into April we start sessions for Owatonna based Forgetful Grace. More on them next month. Thanks to all of the above for trusting A440 for their recording!
